i heart faces is hosting a Pink Week photo challenge. I’m a bit sensitive about Breast Cancer Awareness month. Every October we are inundated with pink. For me it’s a constant reminder of my own family history. I am still angry about the impact cancer has had on my life and the lives of the people I love most. In honor of our open wounds, I’m including a song from the late comic genius, Gilda Radner (sung to the tune of Beverly Hillbillies). Gilda died in 1989 after a long battle with ovarian cancer.
no little cancer cells
are hiding inside of me
but if I find a cancer cell
just trying to hang on
I’ll smash and beat it’s fucking head
until it’s dead and gone!
So with a bit of reluctance, I’m including my pink photo.
It represents prevention and female fortitude.
Now, go forth, be healthy and fight, fight, fight!

As I re-read this post, I realize it may sound like I had cancer.
Thankfully, I have never had it and with awareness and prevention, I hope I never will.
